People Sesh

(This was psuedo-free writing/written ideas that were floating around so the grammar's definitely going to be off in some places)

People are animals that have developed a large enough brain to have both complex emotions and cognitive understanding of the world around them. They develop best when in groups that provide support and a quality environment for them to be in. Humans exist now as a strange interdependent machine that works to solve the world's problems and clean their own messes. To be human, one must have a desire to be the support of someone else, have a desire to better themselves/their society, and share about the same DNA structures as the six or seven billion other people walking around on Earth.

To be a man is to have a penis.
To be a woman is to have a vagina.

That might have seemed close-minded, but one is not a man based upon the role that society tells them to play. A man doesn't have to support his family by going out and getting a job anymore. A man can stay home and cook and let his spouse go out and bring home the bacon. People are becoming more accepting to each other's beliefs and lifestyles and old traditions need to die with old thoughts. Everything that society tells their children about how to be a woman or man is wrong, because all you need is the proper equipment "downstairs". A person with a vagina shouldn't be discouraged from taking up classes such as woodworking or math/science kinds of things just as a person with a penis shouldn't be discouraged from taking up classes such as home ec. or women's literature. Society needs to stop pushing gender specific things onto people and let them be themselves. If one has a penis and truly feels like a woman, then one shouldn't have to lie about the existence of said penis. That person should be proud of what they are and should be allowed to act however they see fit without the judgement of the society around them, because if society puts a positive support system behind a person, then society will get a positive adult back. So people need to be even more open minded and considerate to others' individuality and forget that genders exist, because living in a world where things are dictated upon societal structures that were put into stone thousands of years ago will not make living in the world easier with each other.

  1. Also, Artists are humans that communicate with the world through mediums that provoke emotional and intellectual responses. The term has to be super vague in order to allow future artists to express themselves in ways we can't imagine yet. Art doesn't die until people are unable to experience it and cannot remember how it changed them, even if only for part of a second. That's what's really cool about art. People are probably not going to stop talking about van Gogh for a long time.

    aaaaaaaaand I'm out.

  2. Gries - I like that you mentioned the importance of interdependance in the human experience. While I agree with you that people shouldn't feel limited by the gender with which they were born, there are undeniable differences in nature between males and females that I feel are overlooked in your post. In the reading on Right vs. Left brain, it was discussed that women and men's brains are noticably different genetically. I agree with your overview of art and never thought of those in the future having mediums we know nothing of yet. Overall, I think your ideas are coherent and insightful. Well done!

  3. Mr. Chrisbach: While reading your explanation of what it means to be a human, I saw you said that "To be human, one must have a desire to be the support of someone else." I disagree. Though this desire is a positive human characteristic to have, I don't believe it is a requirement. Many humans live alone and have peaceful happy lives without being the support of anyone. Also I liked your straightforward approach for describing the main difference between males and females. You got the private parts stuff out of the way right in the beginning, nice move. I too agree that men and women shouldn't be discouraged from seeking after opportunities that may or may not be more prevalent for the opposite gender to seek after. But I also agree with failgloriously when he/she says that men and women do have undeniable differences in nature as well as, as you put it, their "equipment "downstairs"". Another thing I read that was interesting was how you said that our interpretation of art needs to be super vague to allow future artists to express themselves in ways we may not be able to understand yet. This was an intelligent way to include all forms of art including the forms yet to come. All in all, sweet work Gries.
